Mesh Networking

        Self-assembling, Self-healing, highly-reliable algorithm
        Point-to-multipoint networking topology
Automatic or Manual link priority configuration
        Multi-mode operation:
         Base Bridge mode
         Client Bridge mode
         Simultaneous MU support
        802.11i AES-CCMP Encryption

 Mesh -  How it works

Each Mesh AP requires these config items:
Role in the Mesh (i.e. Base Bridge and/or Client Bridge)
         Mesh WLAN Name
Mesh Encryption Key (i.e. WEP, TKIP or AES)
Each BB AP will accept up to 12 CBs
Each CB AP will establish up to 3 links (1 primary, 2 backup)
A CB AP can support a wired segment on the Eth port
Any AP can support MUs on Mesh or other WLAN

Mesh – Self-Assembling Algorithm

CB scans for BBs with Mesh WLAN
CB establishes primary and secondary links:
RSSI @ Association time
STP Priority (default is 32768, if equal then lowest MAC)
Path Cost (Eth=19, RF>65dBm=32, RF<65dBm = 33 to 255)
CB forwards traffic on primary link unless link fails (i.e. 10 Failed Tx or 100 Missed Beacons)
CB constantly re-scans for new or better BBs links

Mesh – Single vs Dual Radio AP

A mesh with WLAN service to MUs can be implemented on a single-radio AP.
        However, advantages of dual-radio AP:
         802.11a radio dedicated to Mesh
         802.11b/g radio dedicated to Clients
Most efficient use of bandwidth and channel utilization
Uplink data does not need to contend for channel used by MUs
Adjacent channels can use different channels

Mesh – Security
Access to the Mesh and Encryption of Mesh data is achieved via PSK methods (including 802.11i):
         WEP 40-128 bit
         KeyGuard
         TKIP  WPA
         AES-CCMP  WPA2-802.11i  (Recommended)
Security policy is created and applied to Mesh WLAN, like any other WLAN
 Mesh – Trunking
        AP-7131 Mesh supports VLAN Tags
BB and CB LAN Ethernet Ports can be trunked:

 Mesh – Trunking Extreme
AP-7131 Mesh supports Dual Wireless VLAN Trunks…

         Switch B ßà Switch D
